EMDR Group Sessions
Our group sessions allow people who have been through stressful or traumatic events to engage in an evidence-based therapy to reduce their feelings of distress related to these events. Engaging in therapy in a group setting has a number of benefits. Because the details of the memories being processed are not shared, it can make it easier for people to be honest about what they need to focus on. People can find working on their own issues in a shared context contributes to a feeling of empowerment. Groups also provide the opportunity for more people to engage in this evidence-based therapy at once, with time, resource and cost-saving benefits.
A range of different groups or workplaces can access our group therapy. We have run groups for therapists who have experienced vicarious trauma and mother's who have experienced birth trauma. We also offer groups for workplaces or groups of people who have experienced distressing or traumatic event/s, such as frontline/emergency care workers.
If you currently receive therapy for an ACC Sensitive Claim, you may be able to access our ACC funded group therapy. Your ACC therapist can refer you to this group. It runs once a week for two hours over five weeks. We aim to run two groups per term with up to 10-12 people in each group.
